So many to choose from, so much to pay for.

Google Play

I spend too much renting films on Google Play but I can’t help it! It lures you in with its trailers and tricks (and it holds your card information too – by the time you have thought about it you have already bought it.) The movies are usually £2.49 – £3.49 to rent which is reasonable considering you can choose whichever takes your pick. It also suggests other (related) international movies which helps you choose your next buy.

The one downside I do find is browsing – international movies as a genre is hard to find. You need to know what kind of film you want to watch (which sometimes is not the easiest task late at night when you are beyond making any kind of decision.)

Amazon Prime

I recently subscribed to Prime – i thought £79 a year was quite a deal. Despite fantastic orginal shows, their international section was a little lackluster for me. It included some that Google Play did not, but missed out some of the greats and the award winners – the majority is a little outdated and, in my opinion, slightly too similar to each other. You can view the international films on prime before you subscribe here.

Netflix

We all love Netflix – its continuous playing means you are set for hours, it’s relatively cheap and everyone is talking about something on there. It used to have an extensive list of international films but some of these have since been removed (such as the majority of Audrey Tautou films – why, Netflix, why?)

That being said, what they do have is very good and is what got me into world cinema in the first place; I only wish they updated it more.
